Energy Savings: Tips to avoid shocks in the energy bill
Save money using your appliances correctly
The rise in electricity tariffs reinforces the desirability of following a few tips and to establish simple patterns that will result in considerable savings in consumer bill. The new year has begun with a rise of 2? 8% of the electricity tariff of Spanish homes, which for an average consumer with a bill for 31 euros a month is an overpayment of 74 cents. A television off control only consumes 15 watts per hour. It is a further argument for avoiding such common habits, and so unwise as not to turn off the lights when you leave your room, keep the thermostat on heating above the temperature required. However, the Government has accompanied the general increase with a lowering of nocturnal consumption. This will, for example, the washer and dishwasher between 9 pm and 11 am enabling the consumer to save between 2 and 8%. This is, however, the only way to prevent shocks in the electricity bill.Lighting
* Replace conventional light bulbs (incandescent), are the greatest consumption and shorter, with bulbs "efficient" (without ballast CFLs radioactive and low-voltage halogen). They provide the same light, last 8 times longer and save up to 80% of energy. According to the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDEA), the replacement of a traditional bulb by other low-power represents the end of their life savings of more than 60 euros.* If you change the bulbs three more home consumption by the equivalent of low consumption, reduced to half what it spends on lighting and recover the purchase by the savings in eight months. The savings after five years it will be around 300 euros.
* Compact fluorescent lamps are excellent energy saving, especially if you consider that the energy consumption for lighting accounts for about 20% of household electricity consumption. In some houses without adequate natural and this expenditure can have half the energy bill.
* Install fluorescent bulbs in spaces where you need more light, and where it stays on for many hours: kitchen, bathroom ... Last 10 times longer than incandescent lamps and consume four times less energy. Try not to turn them on and off constantly because it shortens their life. If the fluorescence will be off less than 20 minutes, is best left on.
* Both incandescent and fluorescent lamps are to remain free of dust so that the dirt does not block the light they emit.
* Whenever possible, take advantage of natural lighting. Keep blinds and curtains open while there is clearly to make the most of natural sunlight. Use artificial light when you really need. Do not leave lights on in rooms or areas where there is no one.
Appliances
When purchasing an appliance, it is very important to consider its energy consumption. It should therefore pay special attention to the energy label that is included in all appliances whenever you decide to purchase. This classification indicates the degree of energy efficiency of the device. A greater efficiency, lower consumption.Consumer Class Power Consumption
A Less than 55% of averageB Between 55% and 75% of average
C Between 75% and 90% of average
D Between 90% and 100% of average
E Up to 10% above average
F Between 10% and 25% above average
G Above 25% above average
The best way to use your appliances and consuming less, is always used at full load and if they have, using economic programs.
Dishwasher
* The dishwasher is one of the most energy-intensive appliances. 90% of this consumption is due to the process of heating the water and the remaining 10% is used to rotate the blades and shake the water. However, washing dishes by hand with hot water accounts for 40% more consumption than the dishwasher.* Choose the size of your dishwasher according to their needs. If you normally have little dishes to wash, it can hardly use a large dish full load.
* An interesting option is the dish called bi-thermal, which have two independent measurements, one for cold water and another for hot water. Thus, the hot water circuit is taken from the furnace or boiler, reducing by 25% on washing time and saving energy.
Washing machine
* Low Power washers save up to 70% water and 24% of energy.* Analyze wash cycles offered each model and remember the importance of an economic cycle and short, and a choice of different wash temperatures
* Note that front-loading washing machines wear out, usually, less energy and water than top loading.
* 90% of consumption of the washer is for heating water. Use a wash cycle with cold or lukewarm water, which is usually sufficient current detergents.
Refrigerator
* The refrigerator is the appliance that consumes more electricity in the house, namely, 40% of what they consume all the devices.* The ice and frost are insulators and impede the cooling in the refrigerator. In the market there are models, so-called "no-frost" or no frost, which have a continuous circulation of air inside prevents the formation of ice and frost.
* Adjust the temperature of the refrigerator according to the manufacturer's instructions. Every degree Celsius cooling accounts for 5% increase in energy consumption.
* Keep the back of the refrigerator and freezer always cleaned and ventilated and place them away from heat sources. Installed in poor condition may consume up to 15% more energy.
* Do not put hot food in the refrigerator or freezer. If allowed to cool off, save energy.
* Check your fridge seals and do not open in vain. A few seconds is enough to lose much of the accumulated chilling.
Plate and oven
* If your kitchen is electric, use pots and pans are larger than the plate or cooking area. If a recipient leaves the air two or three inches of cooking area, is losing half the energy consumed. Provided that the recipe allows, use pressure cookers. Consume half the energy and save time.* Take advantage of waste heat from electric stoves, turning it off when missing about five minutes to finish cooking (slightly less if ceramic).
* Do not open the oven unnecessarily. On each occasion to do so may reduce the temperature between 50 and 125 degrees, and is losing up to 20% of the accumulated heat. Use the timer or the alarm buzzer of the oven.
* If you use the oven regularly, know that convection favors the uniform distribution of heat, save time and spend less energy.
Others saving tips
* When you purchase a small appliance, buy one whose power is sufficient for your needs. Believe it or not, while wearing, hair dryers, microwaves or vacuum cleaners may have an over consumption of a refrigerator.* Turn off the TV, video, stereo or computer when not in use. Leave them in stand-by power consumption is up 33%.
* Turn off the power switches of the apparatus. Do not power off with the remote control, some components of these devices are connected and consuming up to 80% of normal consumption. A television off only with the remote control consumes about 15 watts of power per hour.
The temperature, at bay
* Good insulation can save up to 40% of family expenditure on consumption of heating, about 160 per year, and also a significant percentage of air conditioning systems and air conditioning, according to the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDEA).* Replace electric radiators for heat registers, and hire night rate. You'll save over 50% in heating costs.
* Ensure that the heating temperature is maintained around 20 ° C temperature level is ideal for a home. For each additional degree consume between 5 and 7% more energy. And if he is absent from his home for one hours, reduce the thermostat to 15 º C.
* For every degree of temperature that will require your air conditioner below 25 º C, will be consuming about 8% more energy.
